Testing and Commissioning

Coming from a background in electrical testing and commissioning across data center and industrial projects in Saudi Arabia, I've seen how often this field is overlooked in engineering education back home — despite being one of the most practical, high-demand specializations globally. Idea: PEC and universities could introduce a dedicated "Testing & Commissioning" track or short certification program within electrical engineering curricula — covering NETA-style testing standards, MV/LV system commissioning, protection relay testing, and safety protocols (LOTO, permit-to-work systems). This would give fresh graduates hands-on, industry-ready skills before they even enter the job market, close the gap between theoretical power systems knowledge and real-world commissioning practice, and position Pakistani engineers as strong candidates for data center and industrial projects in the Gulf and beyond — a sector that's rapidly expanding. Would love to hear thoughts from other engineers and educators on how feasible this would be, and what such a program could look like.
